Rust backend and Solana engineer, out of an offensive-security background.

TL;DR I used to work in offensive security. Web apps, Active Directory, network attack paths, the usual. I still keep up with it, but these days most of my time goes somewhere else.

I build backend systems in Rust, aimed at Solana and the protocol layer, the on-chain code that holds other people's money and has to be correct. I'm working through a long, deliberate plan to get properly good at it, one repo at a time.

Two things I'm building right now:

  • Vyrox Security: a security tool with a memory-safe Rust core, built so the automated part escalates to a human instead of acting on bad input.
  • Identra: a desktop canvas for running coding agents that keeps a memory across sessions. Rust engine, Tauri shell, React canvas. This is the tool I most want to exist, so I'm making it.

At the time of writing, my interests are:

  • Rust & systems: backends, Solana programs, distributed systems, storage engines.
  • Dev tools: coding-agent tooling, terminals, and editors. Identra is where most of that curiosity goes right now.
  • Security: web apps and Active Directory, these days mostly as a hobby.
  • Reading: source code, systems papers, and the occasional bug bounty writeup.

The handle keirsalterego is a fusion of Gaelic and Latin that means, roughly, "the dark citadel of my second self." Yes, I chose it. No, I will not apologise for it.

This site is built with Astro and dressed in Tokyo Night, the same palette I stare at in the editor all day. The writing lives in Obsidian and syncs here. One day I'll rewrite the whole thing on a static site generator I build in Rust, and this paragraph will age badly.

Projects

The running list lives on the builds page: a minimal Raft store, a Rust codegen backend, a P2P comms tool, Identra, the Vyrox proxy, and a handful of security tools. Mostly Rust, some C, some Python, and one small language of my own.
